Can only use 32-bit VMs

Great news, everybody! (brownie points to people  that know who said that and from what show)

 

After quite a bit of Googling and poking around, I came across this guide which fixed my issue. :) http://www.fixedbyvonnie.com/2014/11/virtualbox-showing-32-bit-guest-versions-64-bit-host-os/

So I was going to make an OS X virtual machine, but VirtualBox (and VMWare) are only allowing me to create 32-bit machines. My OS is Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and everything is set up properly as far as I can tell. I'm honestly stumped as to why they aren't letting me create 64-bit VMs. :/

did you enable it in the bios? (idk if it was to enable All virtual machines or just 64bit)

I meant that there is no option in BIOS to select either x86 or x64.

Everything worked fine in Windows 7.

 

There is no option to enable that in BIOS. In virtualbox, look for VM Generation- it should be Generation 2. That's what I have in hyper-v though...

Where exactly would I find that if it's even in VB?

why not just use the one from 7? did you delete it?

you can transfer the virtual machine files from computer to computer and cross os.

at least with vmware.

Not sure what you're getting at. I can't make 64-bit VMs on 8.1, and I used to on 7. And I don't have the VMs that were 64-bit anymore.

what happens when you try to do a 64bit machine. Error code?

I don't even have the option to do one in VirtualBox.

 

In VirtualBox, Windows 7 x86 seems to boot fine. In VMWare I get this.
