Hi all

I've recently build a new computer with i5 4690k and asus z97-a board and I did little overclocking after reading all the guides. Everything was working fine all stress tests are passed but strange problem occurs. After leaving my computer on for a couple of hours doing nothing, and waking it up and starting some work CPU voltage go insane up to 1.46v WTF in CPU-Z???? I set CPU core Voltage Offset to 1.15 +0.005 volts on stress test it max out on 1.161 and that's enough for my 4.5Ghz OC. After realizing that I've played a bit with Load Line Calibration setting it on lower  like lvl3 from auto. CPU current capability set to 110% but that doesnt change anything, all other power saving modes are on CPU C-States EIST.. I dont know what is causing the problem!

exact components are Asus z97-a, i5 4690k, kingston 2800Mhz 2*4gb, nvidia quadro and corsair mx520w PSU.

In bios:

CPU multiplier 45x

CPU cache 42x

Cpu offset 1.15 +0.005

CPU cache on offset 1.05 +0.010

CPU input voltage 1.78

System AGent 0.1v

everything else is on auto, some things are turned off like spread spectrum and that's it.

What do you think what could be potential problem?

Thanks for help

You could try using manual voltages instead of offset/adaptive mode, that may fix it.

Have you turned off turbo boost or whatever it's called?

If I turn off turbo it won't go above 3.5ghz.

manual voltages are not good for 24/7 usage man

How long have you stressed it for?

for 2h

Manual voltage is perfectly fine when you're below intel's recommended spec lol, even slightly above their recommended spec it's fine for 24/7 use with proper cooling methods.

I agree, never had issues at manual voltage, although a 212 evo was on it :D

Cpus can talk a lot more voltage than people think. They are very very sturdy.

i guess I'm going to switch for manual if nothing comes up. But doesn't manual voltage puts pressure on on-board voltage regulators?

You're within Intel recommended spec. It should have no impact on lifespan whatsoever.

If you have a good board with good components then everything should be fine but remember stock voltages are higher and the voltage you've typed in manually so if anything, running the CPU at stock with auto voltages would put more strain on the power delivery using your understanding.

I'm tired and can't think straight so hopefully that makes sense.
