Opinion Piece: Evolution of UI

shmurple

Its a fairly simple question, and it starts with the premise that over the years we've had different operating systems, that when they started out did vastly different things. Then over the years they evolved to be more similar. Android and iOS, Windows and OS X. They still have different design languages sure, but when you look to see how many times Windows has borrowed something from OS X or times iOS has borrowed from Android. As humans we only have so many physical ways we can interact with and control hardware and software. So my questions are...

Will the User Interfaces that we use today eventually evolve to the point where we have the perfect UI and at that point be the same?

And if that is the case and we assume that there are still different company's offering different brands of the same UI, what would make us want to chose one over the other?

Any Thoughts?

there will never be a perfect UI, as the way we use programs will change, as will the programs, and devices.

UI will simply have to follow and evolve.

ps: i'm pretty sure in the 80s the command line was a really refined awesome UI.
