Gaming/Audio Headphones

Go to solution Solved by nickl,

I ended up getting a pair of AKG K240 Studio's I really like them, and got them for like $80 on Amazon.  :D

I am interested in buying a pair of headphones that I will use for gaming. But, I also want good fidelity for stuff like music and video editing. What would you suggest? I was looking at the AKG K240 MKIIs, but they are a bit pricey...

Budget: $100 or less, or maybe a bit more for something especially good.

So thanks for reading guys, if this post sucked, I'm not sure what you can do, but if you liked it, go 'head and hit that like button, or maybe add me as a friend. Otherwise, go subscribe to LinusTechTips on YouTube, follow them on Twitch, follow @LinusTech on Twitter, and support them by using their affiliate code on Amazon, buying a cool T-shirt, or supporting them directly on this community forum.

Are you looking for headphones or a headset? Curious because the first couple recommendations have been headsets.  ^_^

For headphones I use and would recommend the Sennheiser HD558. I find them comfortable with a pretty balanced and clear sound and a good soundstage. Although maybe a little over your budget at $109 at Amazon.

The Audio Technica ATH-M40x is $80 on Amazon right now, I haven't owned one myself but I have read good things about it. If I wasn't looking for an open air headphone I was looking at getting one of these.

CPU: Intel 4790k Cooler: Corsair h100i Mobo: ASUS Z97-A RAM: Corsair 16GB Vengeance 1866 GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 Storage: Crucial mx100 512GB & x3 2TB HDDs Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl PSU: Seasonic SSR-650RM Monitors: Acer XB271HU and Asus VG236 Keyboard: Corsair Gaming k70 RGB Mouse: Cyborg RAT 7 Headset: Sennheiser 558 + Antlion ModMic 4.0 Speakers: Harmon Kardon Soundsticks

I was looking primarily for headphones, but a headset would be OK. I like the idea of studio monitor headphones. One thing I was wondering about was the difference between studio headphones and gaming headphones, as I don't really know what the difference would be. I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD 201's, and those hurt my ears after extended wearing. I have used my dad's AKG K240's, and I really like them, but they aren't sold anymore, and the MKII version is $150 on Amazon.

Well if you can use open back headphones( from your question it seems you can) I would recommend the audio technics ath ad500x.

If you want a closed headphone the m40x is a great balanced option a warmer headphone that will only be slightly above your budget is the Shure srh440+840 pads

Do you care about open or closed back headphones? If you want or can live with open, Philips SHP9500 are your best bet and you can get them for $50 on Newegg with promo code right now.

I guess I would prefer closed ear headphones. Just saying.
