Hey guys

So i did at one point consider buying a AMD 290 a while back but the sound was just awful and that card got pretty damn hot all the time! I was wondering how the 300 series is with heat and sound issues?

Because if they are still loud and get really hot, its just a turn off for me.

Thanks =]

The 300 series is a refresh of the 200 series -- i.e. its the same, just a bit faster. But not all 200 (and 300) series cards are loud or hot. The Sapphire Tri-X for example is neither.

Heat is similar and the noise entirely depends upon which company you get it from.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Ah okay fair enough, i knew it was a refresh but i thought things such as heat could have been improved by the stock card that is.

Thanks anyways =]

They improved the power consumption a little bit (25-30w).

But other then that, its pretty much the same, except for the 300 series having better color compression (more effective use of VRAM), more VRAM, higher base clock and memory clock.

yup, well im just looking around for a friend for 1080p gaming may just stick with Nvidia, but depends on any sales and such when he builds his pc.

just a heads up. the 390 costs the same as 970, but performs 5-10% better in most tests. AMD is the best "bang for your buck" atm.

As for some other "rumors" or myths if you like.

Drivers.

Ive used AMD for 3,5 years now. I used beta drivers most of the time (they do not make a lot of WHQL drivers, but their beta drivers are released frequently).

Within 3,5 years, AMDs drivers has gone tits up 5 times....

In comparison, Nvidia screwd up 2-3 drivers in the past 2 months..... So any rumor about Nvidia being superior with drivers is a bust. Yes Nvidia has better CPU overhead then AMD in DX11 due to Nvidia implementing a set of "quick liberaries" for DX functions. Why AMD has not done this for their own drivers is beyond me. But i digress.

As for gaming.

See if you can make space in your budget for a new monitor soon. While 1080p is fine, 1440p just looks crisper, and good 1440p monitors will last you for 3-6 years atleast, while most graphics cards cannot max out a game after 2,5 years.

Thanks for the info!

And i did own a 7870 for a while and didnt have any problems with drivers. At the moment i own a Gtx 970 anyways so wont need to upgrade the GPU just yet.

This was just all curiosity since i like to stay up to date with new hardware and as for 1440p i wont be upgrading to that for a little while, earliest the end of the year!

Really appreciate all the info!

SO MANY MISCONCEPTIONS.

The 390s do not run hot or loud, the drivers have been more stable than nvidia;s the last few iterations, and its not exactly the same as the 290. it performs better than the 970 and has more vram.

Yes, it does use a little more power than its nvidia counterpart.

I never said it ran loud or hot, i was wondering if it did since i had that problem with the 290 thats all.

And the V-ram would not matter much when its 1080p gaming on 1 monitor.

Also i never had a problem with drivers also and never said they were bad cards.
