Hi, I have recently got a new camera: an EOS 600D and the zoom function seems to be funny, pretty sure it's a setting somewhere: I can zoom by twisting the lens but using the button to magnify/zoom to 10x comes up fine on the screen, but once the picture has been taken it goes back to being not zoomed....please could someone help, any help is greatly appreciated, cheers, Ben.

It has been a while since I last used a Canon DSLR, but here goes.  There are two types of zoom, digital and optical.  Digital zoom is essentially cropping and re sizing the image.  When shooting in live view mode on the Canon, when you zoom in you are not actually zooming the photo but rather you are just zooming the live view which is useful to see how well you are focused.

For best results, always use optical zoom.  If you require additional zoom, just crop your image.  Any built-in digital zoom is pretty much doing just that.

Ok thanks for your info. So basically, I can't zoom in any further than turning he lens unless a I edit the photo afterwards? Cheers

Or by buying a new lens. Would recommend the Sigma 28-200mm c: Remember that DSLR lenses are replaceable c:

Correct, canon DSLRs do not have "digital zoom"  you zoom in as far as your lens will take you, so you either need to crop the photo in editing, or buy a lens with a longer focal length
