Overclocking MSI 970

I did a bit of googling online to see how people were benchmarking, and I ended up finding one for stock voltage.

My GPU is running at 1300MHz, and Memory is running at 1980MHz.

Now, I ran kombuster stress test for about an hour and everything seems to work fine.

All my games run fine, I played Metro Last Light for an hour and didn't have any issues.

But the only thing that refuses to work is the 3D Mark 11 Demo. it crashes my display driver everytime, and it seems to either be the driver build or the 3D mark demo sucks. Alternatively my OC could be too much.

Any ideas?

Usualy display driver crashing means that the OC is not stable. That said, you may have stable OC for games and not for benchmarks or there may be rare situations in games that can cause your GPU to crash.

3D mark is good for testing your OC stability. Basically, if it can get though it fine, then it's stable. Try reducing it a little and testing, then reducing and test. So on until it's stable.

Your OC is not the problem. Try running Valley and other games. Ignore 3dmark for now as it could be that your version is buggy. You can get much more of an overclock on that card.

This was weird. It backed down really low. After a restart it fixed itself. I ran valley benchmark on ultra and it worked fine.

It got a score of 5,500 or something on valley. No issues after the restart GPU temp under load is only 60c.

extreme hd got 2600

And it put itself back to stock. Why does it keep doing that? Afterburner is being wonky.

Whats your power target at? Max it out if it isn't already

You don't have to touch the vltage. THe power limit just increases the amount of power the card can draw. Even my card at stock clocks was using more power than 100%. It won't damage your card

I had it set to 100. I didn't think that it could use more. Do you mean it just draws more watts? Ah I see. I think the max for the card is 108 otherwise it downclocks like before.

Yeah like with my custom bios i have mine at 130%. My clocks are 1600/2100

Well I maxed it out in afterburner. Ran the valley benchmark at extreme hd and got a score of 2800.

I think its pretty good oc.

What cpu do you have? My max score on valley was 2974 because of my i5s 3.2ghz -________-

i7-4790k at 4.4ghz

I think my mobo has something to to do with it.
