VRM overhearing

Go to solution Solved by TheMcSame,

Honestly I'd just get a new board unless you want to jump to intel. Remember to check the CPU support list for motherboards next time, the FX 4130 is the only FX chip listed as supported for your board, you're pushing it well beyond what it was designed for.

Does your mobo support a 125W processor?

Wattage alone isn't going to mean anything, the 4130 is a 125W TDP chip and it's supported by the OPs board, the 8350... 125W TDP but a lot more voltage, not supported by this board.

When I was stress testing my fx8350 I felt odd smell similar to burning, ofc I immedialty stopped the test and started to sniff around so I can find where the smell is comming from, it was comming from cpu area, but cpu temps never went higher than 52C so I came to conclusion that the smell could come from VRM, so the question is - is there any way that I can cool my VRM if I want to OC the cpu or should I just look for a new board with vrm cooling on it?

Which motherboard are you using?

And I think you should probably look at a new board, or in my opinion, looking at switching to Intel.

I know, I was on a really tight budget back then. -_-
