Hey guys, so i'm after a new GPU. So i had my eye on the R9 390, but i heard it sucks at GTA 5, which i mostly play. Is it really bad at running GTA 5 compared to the 970 or not?
I like the 8gb of the 390, as it is more future proof. So should i get the 390? I can get it for $470 shipped to AUD.

It's not bad at running GTA V, it will perform around the same, if not a little better than a 970, looking at benchmarks.

Just wondering, where are you getting it from for $460 in Australia? The cheapest I can find is still over $500.

Be careful with shipping from the US. I'm not familiar with Australia's import taxes and handling fees, but you may end up spending a lot more than what Newegg states. At least here in the UK, the import duties are the big cost, not the shipping.

If you haven't already, I'd check how much, if any import duty and taxes there are.

Well driver issues, heat and i been through 4 of them in 4 months and i finally gave up on amd and went with nvidia.

Heat was only a problem with the 290 and 290x because of the cooler, don't generalise.

Forgot to ask, will this be a big upgrade over my reference GTX 770 2gb?

Uh uh. It doesn't work that way. If you look back at recent nvidia drivers, many people are having headaches.

Nvidia's driver have always been just as good/bad as AMD. I don't where the driver argument came from.

It's really good actually, I used to run GTA 5 with a single R9 290 (which is the exact same GPU as the 390) and it ran extraordinarily well, never had any crashes and ran very smoothly. Now I have two 290s and it runs even smoother.

Sorry man no issues here on nvidia side.

No issues here on the AMD side either. I have 160 hours of GTA 5 gameplay, amongst others, and never had any problems. At all.
