Hey guys, tell me of this is a stupid thought but here it is.

Whenever i see a review for the 980ti, it is always said that this card is for 1440p or 4k, because it is overkill for 1080p. But what i am wondering is how long could this card run new AAA games on high settings  @1080p60 for? I cant imagine that in 4 years it is struggling to run AAA games @1080p60 on at least high settings. Is gaming in 1080p future proof?

Also, with how powerful GPUs are getting, how long do you think it will be until we don't do 1080p benchmarks at all?

p.s. I'm not going to be buying this card...just curious...

When 4K is standard, which is a whole 'nother prediction thing..

Why did 1440p never become the standard? It seems like it will just jump from 1080p to 4k...blowing past 1440p. :(

With 1440p displays being just as much as 4K displays, they have just skipped over 1440p.. Kinda

4K is not even standard yet now

1440p is getting much cheaper now, picked up 3 x Dell P2416D for £600, couple of year ago the equivalent 1080p monitor from dell would have run me £220 a piece!

As for why it didn't take off? Scaling.

1080p does not play nice with 1440p when scaled, where as UHD (3840x2160) is a perfect doubling and as such will scale without needing sampling (Which reduces scaler complexity and cost which makes manufacturers happy).
