A 550 Ti, 560, and 560 Ti are good cards to pair with that CPU(on the green team). Anything higher, and a bottleneck most likely will form.

you can do 1080p low quality gaming with 560ti and onwards because whatever you put will be highly bottlenecked by your cpu and possibly your ram

Ya an E8xxx series Core 2 Duo will do fine with a tier 1 5xx series GPU.

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

actually he should be cranking the settings high if he has a cpu bottleneck (setttings like graphics quality) I myself have a cpu bottlenecked system (minor) but I only see a 10-20 fps increase in games like bf3 going from low to ultra on 1080p, if the gpu is more OP than the cpu you should crank up graphics quality until the gpu is taxed to keep a good experience.

An E8xxx Core 2 Duo can play BF3 fine, might be a lil sluggish online @ 1080p around 30 fps, but meh.

I had a q6600 core 2 quad @ 3.0ghz and it slightly bottlenecked my gtx 470. I noticed it when I did some benchmarks with my new pc, in which I kept my 470.

Having said that, a core 2 duo would obviously bottleneck pretty much anything. Unless maybe it's clocked at 4ghz ^^
