Catalyst 15.7 Issues

Go to solution Solved by Clyne,

15.4 was the update that GTA V ran well on AMD cards anyway.

You can roll back to 15.4 or 15.5 if your not used to 14.12 but again beta drivers.

But i have a 270X and a 8320 on 15.4 and it runs fine for me. Source games and GTA V run fine and around the same FPS in source games on 15.4.

I've never been a fan of beta drivers so you can imagine how happy I was to update from a December 2014 driver to a July 2015 driver. I just got GTA V and with the new driver my FPS went from a horrible 5-10 to 40-60 with rare dips into the 20's. Awesome! Sadly it seems as if this driver update messed up somewhere. I'm currently having issues with the following games/programs: CS:GO, CS:S, Garry's Mod, TF2, Photoshop CC, and Windows File Explorer. In terms of the games, they all share a similar issue, frame dropping. My current build is an R9 290, FX-8350, and 8GB DDR3 1866MHz and with Catalyst 14.12 my FPS in CS:GO for example would be anywhere from 190-280. With 15.7 my FPS ranges from 120-200 and will frequently drop to 20-50 FPS, and when I say frequently I mean every few seconds. This makes the game completely unplayable. In PS and File Explorer, I experience general lag. It's similar to the frame dropping in the games in the sense that if one of the programs are running my cursor will just jump around my screen. I've read in a few other places that other people are having these issues and that it may have to due with a mistake AMD made that makes their new driver not cooperate with Source Engine. No word on PS and Explorer. However, I've read that some people aren't having this issue at all and are enjoying great FPS in games like GTA V and normal gameplay in Source based games. If you're one of those lucky people, do me a favor and tell me what you may have done to make everything work they way it should. So far the only solution I've found is rolling back to 14.12 and painfully holding off on playing GTA V..

TL;DR

15.7 appears to have screwed with Source based games. If you aren't having issues in Source games, what have you done other than updating to 15.7 that could have affected your experience other than rolling back to the last stable/beta driver?

Alright, well I suppose I'll delve into the optional downloads section and grab 15.4 and see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

User of overclocked 7970 here 1200/1600 (which performs a hair slower than 290). Tried CS:GO with 15.7. Framerate is around 150, going over 200 sometimes. And no stuttering to speak off.

If anything, I suggest uninstalling all AMD drivers through "Uninstall or change a program", restart, use DDU to remove anything else, restart, then install the newest driver. Or have you done this before already? If so, I have no idea. Try 15.4 like others said I guess.

I assume it's the older generation cards that work, that seems to be a common factor. Anyways, I indeed uninstalled 15.7 and installed 15.5. Everything is working perfectly now, just waiting for 15.7.1 [emoji14]
