Upgrading From MSI Gaming 5 to Gaming 6. Reinstall windows?

The system booted up no problem with the Gaming 6 mobo! the only thing I had to do was install the USB 3.1 drivers and now I'm good to go :D

So, I am upgrading from the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 to the MSI Z97A Gaming 6. On paper, it seems like the only difference is the added USB 3.1 type C connector and a SPDIF sound connecter. Does anyone think I could swap out the motherboards without reinstalling windows or are the chipsets different enough to where it will cause hiccups?

:D  I just built my rig a few months ago and am to be lazy and not have to reinstall everything and config everything to my liking all over again.

Officially speaking the HDD is the boot drive for that cpu. The mobo in theory shouldn't matter, although it's not a particularly common situation to swap mobo's with the same cpu. Only way to know for sure is to try it out.

Well, they could have modified the bus controllers and all that jazz. Who knows, I will find out tomorrow when I perform open heart motherboard transplant surgery on my rig :)

yes absolutely, but windows will most likely ask for you to re-activate...just have your key in hands, you should have a few days to proceed.

I had no problems booting into windows 8.1 switching from the 5 to 6, he swapped out his mobo for the gaming 5 and had no problems with windows 7 :D
