build pc now or wait?

Go to solution Solved by gcubed,

so i shouldn't wait for skylake?

You are not going to like this answer, but you are in Unicorn Country here. Both answers to that questions are both right and wrong.

Waiting for the better technology could easily mean you wait for years since there is always a better technology just months away. At some point you are going to have to stop waiting and build a new system or go without for the rest of your life.

You can gamble and wait for Skylake to ship and then snap up the Haswell-E stuff at a discount. The bet you would be making is that the discount is worth the wait (the possibility exists that there will be no price drop on Haswell) and that you do not get a DOA component. You will also have to act within days to cash in on your wait, otherwise you will miss the odd "deals" here and there (if there are any).

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Does your current system meet your current needs? By that I mean can you do the editing you want? Can you play the games you want and at the settings you want?

If the answer is "yes", then wait.

If the answer is "no" then you need to ask yourself, Can you put together the system you need with the budget you have?

If the answer is "yes", then build now.

If the answer is "no", then wait.

If your answer is to wait, you might be able to sock away some additional funds for an even better system.

It depends on your budget, the cost of a Z97 build at mid range will cost probably 200ish dollars less then going with Z170. So what's your budget?

You should be able to do a pretty decent Skylake build with your budget, however what do you plan to do with your PC?

I would say that is good, a tiny bit over budget, you could always drop the 390 to a 290 and save yourself the $90. Maybe out that towards a better CPU cooler.

so i shouldn't wait for skylake?

I don't recommend it. Not much will come with it gaming wise, so I would say Z97 will be fine for gaming and light video production.

will the components out today drop in price because of sky lake?

No.

Just look at the last gen of Intel processors. Infact, they are MORE expensive than our current gen ones. I don't know why but they just don't drop in price...
