Old boot drive -> New PC

Go to solution Solved by slightlyjaded,

Hi,

My brothers old PC died so we have decided to build a new one. The problem is he's lost his copy of windows / CD key.

Assuming that its not his boot HDD that's died in the old PC, we would like to plug that one straight into the new PC and see if we can get it running off that, uninstall the windows key, copy anything off it and then do a new intall using my discs (same version) and his key.

Will this work?

Sure....As long as it isn't an OEM....

It's probably OEM and have fun getting a key off an OEM PC...
