R9 270X core clock

I have a Asus R9 270x DirectCUII and when I put it under load using valley benchmark or in game the core clock caps out at 1000 mhz, and 1400 mhz memory clock, it is supposed to come factory overclocked to 1120 mhz core a 1400 mhz memory. I have tried manually overclocking both the core and memory it with MSI Aferburner and AMD CCC and after it still stays at the same clock speeds. I have the latest drivers and have tried rebooting, so if you have any suggestions that would be great

the Asus DCUII cooler isnt really strong enough for AMD cards in general, albeit it shouldnt have issues with a 270X. Most likely, you are getting thermally throttled by it.

 

your case may have poor airflow though, thus you cannot get enough fresh air into the case to get rid of the hot "exhaust" air from the card. Try running the benchmark again with your sidepanel off. If you get higher clock speeds that way, the airflow in your case is too poor for your card to function optimally.

 

The solution for bad airflow is as following:
A; bigger intake and exhaust fans (you should try to have slightly more CF/M going in, then going out)

B: buy a bigger case

C: Buy a NZXT G10 + a NZXT Kraken X31 (overkill and pricy solution, but it will certainly work)

I have ran various benchmarks like valley and 3dmark and my temps don't go over 70 C which should be fine.

That cooler is worse than default AMD one BUT! If your temp seems fine then try a another tool to check?

yes, both with AMD CCC and MSI Afterburner

try forcing CCC off by closing it in taskmanager then go into MSI afterburner and "overclock" it there.

 

If the card cannot even manually overclock, then i would just try an RMA and hope they listen to you

It seems that i have to use the Asus GPU Tweak software to get it to run correctly, don't know why, but it works
