So, I think desktops are great, but I need a laptop. When I first got into computers, I did a brief amount of research into this and saw it could be done, but I ran away when I saw how difficult part finding was. Has anybody taken a barebones laptop case and built a full laptop into it? PM me if you have, I would like to discuss the process.

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

It's not a great idea, the money you end up saving isn't great and it gets tedious quickly.

I've never heard of this

You can actually do this, Linus did try it before. But getting parts is hard and it gets pricey quickly.

I think it's possible, but I would limit parts as much as possible.

Build your own case, get a small PSU, no graphics card if possible, mini itx parts or smaller if possible...

I would recommend you not as the whole point of building a computer (from my perspective anyway) is to have it be original and cost less. In this case, you will be forced into using certain parts, giving you very little customizability, and it will generally end up being more expensive, not to mention how much more effort it requires then ordering one online or buying it at the store.

Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Trust me, I'm fully aware of the drawbacks. It looks like a kind of fun project, one that might want to plan out at the very least and I might spend a little more on.

Can I get a link to Linus's attempt?

For some reason, this reminds me of the oil submerged build log. Expensive, impractical, but very awesome.

He talked about it in the Wan show, I'll try to find it but it's dug up too deep.
