Hey everyone. I'm looking to upgrade my PC, as I believe I am a bit outdated.

These are my specs:

  • Coolermaster Haf 922
  • Intel i7-2600K
  • Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO
  • ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
  • Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 sticks of 4GB)
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 570
  • Coolermaster 800W Gold PSU (Modular)
  • Some Fatality Soundcard that seems to work pretty well, though I'm not an audiophile.
  • Razer Lycosa Mirror Edition
  • Logitech G500 Mouse

I also have a DVD drive but that's unnecessary to upgrade.

I'd prefer my budget to be below $500.

I was thinking of getting some more RAM and a new keyboard, as I really like the Cherry MX Blues of a DASKeyboard.

BUT, I have three monitors and at the moment am only able to do a dual monitor setup, so I was thinking of just getting a newer NVIDIA card.

Though I really have no idea. Suggestions welcome! :)

das keyboard have bad build quality from my experience, about half the switches were non klicking (damaged). 2 more ram sticks is a good idea. maybe get a 770 or a ssd. these are the most noticable upgrades performace wise, depends what games you play how noticeable the gpu upgrade is....

if you like the stealth look of das

you could get a simple blue filco one and buy a set of custom keycaps, I believe 30 usd on wasdkeyboards.com

btw I have a 7970 that I try to sell, if you are interested...

Personal Build Project "Rained-On"

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)

If not a Das, then what other keyboard would you recommend?

As for games:

League of Legends

Skyrim

CS: GO

Dishonored

CoD4

TERA

Tomb Raider

When they come out, I'll be getting:

Titanfall

GTA V

Saints Row 4

Watch Dogs

if you want a keyboard, get some good filco, coolermaster, corsair, whatever you like, is popular and has good reviews.

and then spend the rest ~400 on gpu upgrade. maybe a 7970 or 680 4gb or 770 (4gb if released soon)

I can recommend the Rosewill RK-9000 series, have a RK-9000BRi myself, looks nice too, although the braided cabling is weird and has a more hard plastic feel than a soft fabric feel (probably because it's a fine plastic mesh) and the kinks in the cable are outrages to get out and the cable is very stiff, my only complaint is that.

Available from 3pm to Midnight Eastern Time (GMT-5). (>'-')> <('-'<) ^(' - ')^ <('-'<) (>'-')> You can't stop the kirby dance.

yeah I have the rk-9000 and the only thing I can even slightly complain about is the cable but since I don't move my keyboard anywhere it doesn't bother me at all

For 500 dollars I probably would get an SSD or a new video card or even both if you can find a good deal on an SSD and a 7970 or other GPU.

I understand that SSD's decrease boot and load times significantly, but I personally don't find that it's such a "must have" item.

I have no problems with my load/boot times as is and (as unhealthy as this is for my computer) I don't turn it off enough to really care about them.

In terms of GPUs, I was looking at a GTX 760 or a GTX 670. The 7970 might be better cards, but they're in the higher 300/mid 400 range, whereas the NVIDIA cards are a bit inexpensive.

If you have no had an ssd before, you do not know what you are talking about.

Going from an hdd to an ssd is the single most noticeable upgrade you can make and it makes a world of difference.

The slowest part of a system other than the network is the storage drive and and it bottlenecks everything else. Upgrade that and everything becomes smoother.

Right now, AMD has the best value cards with the 7770, 7850, 7870, 7950, and 7970.

I'd recommend getting a 7970 and an ssd: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FZyP

I'm just not convinced that an SSD is something that will really make a difference, with my knowledge of it.

Can someone explain to me why an SSD is such a good item to get?

I was thinking about getting a 7970 simply for the performance boost and the fact that I'd be able to do EyeFinity... until I realized that you need to have a DisplayPort-compatible monitor to go along with it.

Like I said earlier, I have 3 monitors in total, but I'm only using two due to the fact that I don't have an SLI.

So, it seems to me, and maybe someone can change my mind on it, that a NVIDIA card is the better deal.

Everything you access on the drive is faster and snappier. This includes browsers, other programs, and everything else in Windows since you put your os in it. You don't really ever have to wait for things to open and even heavier Adobe programs or Maya opens in a second or two instead of 10, 30 seconds to a few minutes or so.

Get a display port to dvi adapter. You can use your integrated graphics for the third display. Just enable IGD multi-monitor in your bios.

Also, the 7970 can be found from around $300-350 while the 770 is at the very least $400. They cards are nearly neck to neck and the 7970 has more vram.

Hm. I still don't find myself really needing one, as I have no complaints with how everything opens up. It all seems to open up quite quick, but maybe an SSD would be a noticeable difference.

My only question is, I'm primarily a gamer. Rarely do I ever open up my photoshop, and with how large all my games are, would an SSD really make that much of a difference other than opening up Chrome a second or two faster?

I'm not trying to be an ass with my questions, I just want to make sure that I'm 100% confident in what I want. I hope you understand. ><"

The adapter would work.

Would the integrated graphics work even with a game, say BF3? I highly doubt it, but it's worth asking.

Otherwise I'm going to set it up anyways just to use it. :P Thanks!

It will be THE most noticeable difference.

Everything will be faster. If I have to wait for more than half a second for a program to open (Even Photoshop), I'd be disappointed. That is the type of speed I'm talking about.

Tired to slow restarts? It takes about 10 seconds on a good ssd. Updates and installations? Setting up windows on an ssd? Much quicker.

I understand the skepticism. I didn't think I needed one until I tried my friends system. I got the same parts without an ssd raid and it felt much slower and not as smooth. After an ssd, it felt just as smooth as his system.

Do you mean gaming on the side? Doable but not recommended. I've done it just for kicks. Gaming across three monitors? I'm not to sure about compatibility issues. Probably not.

For 500$ the only thing that will noticeably help you boost your FPS are:

GTX 770 (aftermarket cooler from, Evga, Asus, Gigabyte) 4GB which would be at most 450$.

nd for remaining money either buy a cheap SSD or save the money for a good SSD

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

Crossfire is absolutely the worst idea ever for a gamer ;)

It's just useless compared to single card performance (SLI is a lot better but not perfect).

Better is a single, powerful card.

Crossfire produces frames that are empty as in no new frames just the same as before, go go go faster. It says you get 120fps but you get like 70 plus lots of empty frames. And there is microstuttering, very visible one if you have bad luck, causing constant freezes.

Single card on amd side, single or multi card on nvidia side.
