Hello there im new to upgrading computers, and parts and whatnot so please bear with me while i try and learn how this all works,

i have an

ASUS H81M-E H81 LGA 1150 Motherboard and a Nvidia geforce 620 GPU with an i7-4770s CPU

im looking to upgrade mainly my GPU to like a gtx 970/980 but to do so ill need to buy a better PSU which im okay with,

im just not sure if such a big/powerful graphics card will be compatible with my motherboard and CPU as the motherboard is kinda small, so i just need someone to basically tell me how to go about upgrading to a better graphics card given my current stuff i guess :P and if it will work aha. ALSO if someone could explain to me how an SSD works/is beneficial, (do i still need a HDD, can i have both?) that would also be super, sorry if this is all in the wrong section, just trying to learn more :)

It's compatible.

you can have both an SSD and HDD,

If I had a small budget, I would upgrade first the PSU, then the GPU then add an SSD.

What's your budget for this entire upgrade ? R9 390 / R9 380 / 970 are good choices.

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

firstly you can always buy a new mobo, but im not an expert on that part ;)

and ssd: it's a quicker and smaller hdd. it doesn't have moving parts inside (a hdd does). you can have both (and ssds are more expensive)

If you're formally an engineer, avoid responsibility. That's what senior engineers get paid for.

An SSD is a very fast (read-write speeds-wise) storage medium. It has benefits for booting, loading large games and last-but-not-least general usage of your OS, makes it very responsive.

Usually a good setup SSD/HDD-wise is an SSD for OS + some games you play a lot, an HDD for the other games + filestorage.

What PSU do you have now?

What is the upgrade budget?

You mobo will support a high-end GPU no problem.
