GTX 780 Ti high idle temp

tobeyyy

For some reason the 780ti is idling at 60C, I've good airflow in the case and it's not really hot where I live at rn.

Any clues what could be causing this? I've had the card for a little bit over a year.

Another thing, when I play CSGO, the tempature only increases to 65-70

thx!

edit: oh yeah, earlier today it was idling at 30C but it's normally at 60C

Is it a reference card or does it have any kind of aftermarket cooler?

Ok then its the reference model.

Is loud when you are gaming?

If yes than it can be dust stuck in the heatsink or the thermal compound has dried up (happened to my gtx 670).

If no than check if the fan is indeed spinning or if its broken.

Not really loud when I'm gaming but I guess that's because it never goes above 50%/60% fan speed for some reason

I've noticed quite a bit dust in the fan but haven't had the guts to open it up, scared of fucking up

If the fan is not broken dismantle the gpu and clean it up inside and switch out the thermal compound (make sure you know what you are doing, do some googling or ask a friend for help).

If the fan is broken call up EVGA and ask for replacement or something

What thermal compound can/should I use? Can I use the same I use on the CPU?

If you dont want to fiddle with the gpu go on steam and download Evga Precision X 16 and change the fan speed manually.

How are your load temps? Could your fan profile just be low at idle?

No it's set that it automatically controlls the fan speed

Load temps can be around 65-80C

I could post a video dismantling my own gpu if that would help (just note the process will be different for you as you got a newer gpu).

See those load temps are fine. It seems like it's just a quiet profile or something.

Do you know the basics? Removing the gpu from the pc and grounding yourself before touching any electronics?

Yeah

I finally found all the screws but sadly there will be no video

Try to find water cooling guides as they will go through a very similar process.
