so, i have a G3258 at 4.0 ghz

i just got some birthday money and im planning on buying a new cpu, i dont wanna break bank i only have 175$

if i get an i5 it will be used from ebay or a 4460, i dont really want a 4460 as i love oveclocking and have a motherboard desighned for high end overclocks,

but i dont know if an i5 would render any better than a 4 threaded i3

question is, what should i get with 175$ that is lga 1150 and would render a hell of a lot faster than my dual core pentium which takes 11 hours to render a simple 15-30 minute video?

new or used i dont care.

i just really need something that renders a lot lot faster

If you can stretch your budget and try to find a Xeon E3 1230 V3 or 1231 V3, that would be your best bet. Not sure what they go for used, but new they're around $230. Barring that, an i5-4460 would be your best bet.

how is the 4460 for rendering? it only has 2 more cores than the pentium and i know an i7 would be well fast,

i assume it would cut render time about in half?

also i see a lot of things like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Precision-Workstation-670-Dual-Xeon-3-40GHz-2GB-1DVD-RW-and-1CD-Win-XP-C-/121686427311?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c551386af

^ with dual xeons on ebay for cheap, theres 2 xeons in it and theres a lot of them on ebay would that shred render time or would the age of it make it actually slower?

i dont mind transfering files, all im going for is render times about 2 hours 4-5 at the most

Xeon is a product family, like the core series. In fact, it goes back a long ways. That workstation you linked to is incredibly old and I wouldn't bother with it. Socket 604 hasn't been used since 2008, that that was a "revival" for server people. It's most likely from 2006 or earlier.

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 is basically a Core i7 without an iGPU, basically perfect for you. You wont get better without going to an i7-4790k and overclocking, or going LGA2011-3 on X99. Yes the i5-4460 will around halve your rendering time, but not quite since it'll be clocked slower than the overclocked G3258. The Xeon E3 1231 V3 will outperform any AMD chip so the red team isn't a good option either, and you already have the MoBo for it.

I don't know what exactly you're doing that's so intensive, but it sounds like your needs demand an X99 build with at least an i7-5820k, and that won't be a cheap swap. What's your GPU and does the program you use support either OpenCL (amd) or Cuda (NVidia) acceleration?

definitly not on the x99 haha

thanks man

i may switch from sony vegs to something else as well.

i will take a look  at the xeon e3 1231 you mentioned.

im just tired of 11 hour renders xD

How the HELL is that taking 12 hours to make? I made a quick 5 minute youtube video 1080p and it took all of a few minutes. You're not even doing a shitload of compositing! In fact I don't see any at all! Something is seriously wrong with how you're doing stuff.

Yeah I'm wondering this as well. It should not be taking 11 hours to render out unless you're doing other things at the same time. That's an exorbitant amount of time. With a stock 4690K I can render 1080P video in less than real time, so there's no reason your G3258 (which should be about half as quick as my 4690K) should be taking 10x real time unless you're working with like uncompressed 4K video.

if you got a 4790k to 5.2 ghz i think youve broken some sort of record haha

Maybe, I just did that for kicks and giggles. A 15 minute video takes me 20-30minutes to render.

Xenons have hyperthreaded quad cores cheaper than the 4790 http://www.microcenter.com/product/442355/Xeon_E3_1231V3_35GHz_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor, http://www.microcenter.com/product/442453/Xeon_E3_1241V3_35GHz_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor, gota love micro center, and there 4590 is cheaper than the 4460, if thats not an option I would go with a 4460 or an 4370.

i just render 1080p 60fps and then do double pass aand floating point colour :3 i could take a picture of all the settings if you want
