Hey all, so I've got the msi g45 z97 mobo, with 2 760s in it running sli. I decided to buy a 580 second hand to use as a dedicated physxs card and since the 1x slots are fairly cramped I installed it into the 3rd 16x slot. But obviously now the PC is running 8/4/4 I want to run it 8/8 and run that 3rd pcie 16x slot off of the chipset so a 1x speed is fine any ideas?

Doubt you can do that. Haswell CPUs only have 16 lanes unless you're into the X99 setups and from what I remember the chipset lanes can only be used for basics like audio and storage controllers.

Also SLI won't work in 8/4 mode, has to be 8/8. Crossfire will work in 8/4/4.

*Edit: Also dedicated PhysX card isn't worth it.

Lanes aren't allocated like that. They're physically wired to one or the other. Full-size slots are usually wired to the CPU, the x1 slots are wired to the chipset. Nothing you can do to change that.
