Hello, I have been planning on upgrading my GPU for quite a while, I have a card in mind but I don't know if my PSU will be able to handle it, I currently have a 650w power supply, an AMD phenom II X4 970 "deneb" as a processor, an MSI 760GM-P34(FX) (MS-7641) for my motherboard, 2x 8gb ddr3 RAM and 1 SATA 7200 RPM hard drive, If I am missing any information needed for the calculation I can provide it. I just don't want to waste money buying the card just to figure out that my PSU doesn't have enough wattage.

I hope that someone can help.

Which GPU are we talking about? In any case, with a 650w power supply, the answer is very likely to be "yes".

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X            | Cooler: Deepcool AK400  | Motherboard: B550 Elite AX V2  | Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB  |

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB   | GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Ti    | Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black)    | PSU: EVGA 650W G2             |

What 650W power supply specifically? If it's a good quality one, you'll be able to handle pretty much any single GPU on the market.

I forgot to mention I tagged the GPU that I was thinking about, It's the sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202137), Not sure if the PSU is high quality, the brand is Ultra LSP 650W and I've been running it for about a year and a half now

Get rid of that PSU, it might be okay now, but it might go on you at any time, and if it does, well, it'll probably take everything out with it.

I would get a better PSU before upgrading your GPU, but having said that, you would be perfectly fine with a 650W PSU, in fact you could get away with a high quality 500W PSU.

Get a Corsair, Seasonic, FSP or Cooler Master, or any other well known brand name PSU, and take a look at Johnny Guru's website for reviews of PSU's, they know their shit when it comes to PSU's, and if they say stay away, then take their advice and steer clear of it.

Please never skimp on a PSU, no matter what, poor quality PSU's have been known to cause house fires, and at the very least blow up and destroy the computer they where powering, so never ever ever buy cheap on a PSU.

CPU: Core i5 2500K @ 4.5GHz | MB: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P | RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX @ 1866MHz | GPU: XFX DD R9 390 | Case: Fractal Design Define S | Storage: 500GB Samsung 850 EVO + WD Caviar Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM650x | Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium

It's an Ultra LSP 650w, I don't know if it's good, I've seen a lot of bad and good reviews for their PSU's

Eh, that PSU is pretty garbage isn't the end of the world. I wouldn't run it anywhere near 650W of load but if you stay at around half of it or less, you should be fine. What kind of GPU are you looking to get?

Will I be able to run it on my current PSU or do I need to get a new one?
