Hey guys, please recommend me a good cooler that will allow me to overclock my 2600K to 4.5GHZ or better while maintaining low noise and good temps. Thanks :)

My NH-D14 kept my 2500k at 5GHz under 66 degrees under load.

Feel free to message me if you want to chat!

how come?

Well water coolers are 90% of the time better then air coolers and the only 'out standing' air cooler is the noctua but they are ugly as haha

Only outstanding air cooler? What about Phanteks PH or the Thermalright Silver Arrow, or the Prolimatech Genesis? :D

Air Cooling is going to be quieter than AIO's 7/10 times, and when the AIO are quieter they usually suck balls, and you don't have the problem with possible pump failure, and the fans that come with (High End) - Air Coolers are 9/10 the best option, especially comapred to the H100i which needs other fans to really operate quiet and more efficient. Plus, AIO's are usualy 15 - 20% and even 50% more expensive than very good air coolers with maybe 10% better performance at a higher noise level?

Also, don't ever take your personal taste as an argument. You might find them to be ugly, but he may not.

From the air coolers I took the Dark Rock Pro 2, because it's the quietest cooler and the performance is very decent. the Havik would also be a very solid choice!

I think the Corsair H100i would perform anywhere from 5-10 degrees cooler than the Dark Rock if I'm not mistaken, please correct me if I'm wrong by showing some graphs or something :P

Also, I want a fairly quiet system since I'm actually going to be coming from a custom watercooled setup which drives me crazy every day due to noise. I will NOT be getting the H100i if the pump will be making any noticeable noises such as grinding, whirring etc. Please advise me on this

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I wasn't comparing it to the Dark Rock Pro, but the Noctua, Phanteks and Thermalright and so on. The be quiet! is definitely not the best option for an aggressive overclock, but none of them really are, except maybe the H100i, and even that is, at least in my opinion, not really the best option as there are plenty of better options out on the market. Silverstone, new Seidon from Cooler Master, Thermaltake Extreme Water 2.0 are all just a lot better, especially in temps, than the H100i.

Note: I actually switched my vote to the Havik now, it just suits the job better.

How will the Havik 140 handle high overclocks compared to the D14? I've seen lots of reviews where the Havik has matched or surpassed the Noctua, while being half the price. Is this true, and will the Havik be quieter than the Corsair H100i (also please answer my question about the pump lol thanks)

When was the last time someone said wow those noctua fans look so good or they go with my build? the are like the opposite colour to everything

That is why I am not getting the Noctua...

Which is why i suggested the water cooling in the first place? Noctua is what i have found to be the best out of the air coolers but they are ugly and for a similar price you can get a close loop system...

How loud is the Corsair H100i? Does the pump make a noise like this?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

The Havik will perform about equal compared to the Noctua, almost every Twin Tower Heatsink will these days. The reason why people choose to go with Noctua is the overall quality of the thing, very good warrenty and the temperature differences are not going to be so dramatic. The Noctua runs at 925RPM with the Low - Noise - Adapters, it's not audible in either idle or while gaming. But the best thing about it is, that it may run with 35°C or 40°C on Idle, but not more than 45°C while playing demanding games, staying at the same RPM. This will most likely be the same case with the Havik, you might here it turn up while being under use, but I don't think it's going to be super loud since it's also using 140mm fans.

Regarding the pumps: Well, it's always some sort of a hit and miss with these AIO. Some AIO's work perfectly fine without being really audible, other pumps have a grinding noise or you hear it "pumping", and some fail after just a short period of time. Again, if you want almost completly silent operation and want to save some money, go for a very good Air Cooling solution, like this one for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709011

*Raises his hand*

To be honest, I couldn't care less about how the look. The performance and the quietness of these fans have simply blown me out of the water, and again I couldn't care less if they were fluorescent pink as long as the performance is right.

Sure, there are more quieter option, sure there are options that pump more air, but the both sacrifise something, which the Noctua's dont ;)

I do not like the look of those huge heatsinks like the D14 and the Phanteks, however the Havik seems okay to me especially since it will fit my black and white theme very well. I am still leaning towards the H100i since it will apparently perform at least 5C better than the Havik, but I'm worried about pump noise. How many percent of the pumps will make noise, and if they do can they be fixed?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

How the hell am I supposed to know the exact number of these pump noises, etc? :D

And now, it can only be fixed by swapping out the unit, at least from what I know.

If you're really looking into an AIO, then go for a better option. Go for a Cooler Master Seidon, Swiftech H220 (although they're pretty unreliable as well) or the Thermaltake Extreme Water 2.0

And the Havik = small? Barely.
