I know you have to have a motherboard that is compatible with the processor you have and don't know what to look for.

Why not make one post?

 

First you don't need the i7 unless you are doing editing work, the i5 4690K is more than enough. Secondly get a decent Z97 motherboard like the Z97-A or MSI Z97 SLI kariat edition.

You want to look for pretty much any Z97 motherboard.

 

Z97-A from Asus is quite a nice one for a decent price.

Do you plan to OC if you do then you can get any Z97 motherboard if you don't then you could just get a H97 if you want cheaper.

 

Decent Mid range Z97=Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3/5, SOC

                                      MSI Z97 SLI Krait,MSI Z97 G45 or MSI Gaming 3

                                      ASUS Z97 A/AR or Pro gamer

 

High end = ASUS Z97 Sabertooth series, Maximus series

                  MSI Z97 Gaming 5/7/9, MSI MPower

I got i7 but I had need for a expensive Motherboard so I got a Asus Z97-E, but look at these. Watch part 1-4
