Boot setting UEFI or Legacy

Go to solution Solved by Master Disaster,

Windows 7 is not UEFI compliant so your going to have to stick to Legacy mode until you get upgraded to 10.

Windows 10 comes out 29th July so its a month away yet.

I've done a full guide on installing Windows in UEFI mode - http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/302331-doing-a-full-uefi-mode-install-on-windows-88110/

So I've finally realized that I SHOULD be using UEFI mode because it's just overall better in everything, but I wanted to make sure first if I was already in legacy mode or UEFI mode. So I checked msinfo and I didn't even find a "BIOS mode" description and when I went to C:/Windows/Panther, I didn't even see a setupact.log! So I rebooted the computer and went into the BIOS and in the boot option, it said UEFI+Legacy, with an option to change it to just UEFI. So if I change it to UEFI and try to boot, it won't work and it would say something like "EFI Version 1.12 is starting... "

So can someone tell me if I'm using UEFI or Legacy? And how to change it to UEFI if I'm on Legacy, if not, how to install Windows 10 in UEFI when it comes out tomorrow? Thanks

Motherboard: MSI Z87 G41 PCMATE

BIOS Version 1.8

MS-7850

Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium

To install Windows 10 or 8 in UEFI, you need to re-partition your hard drive with GPT partition scheme instead of legacy MBR. It's also required to change your BIOS settings to use UEFI only. This article should be helpful for you if need to create a UEFI compatible USB drive for Windows 10 or 8 installation.

Hey, I've read your guide and you stated that UEFI mode lets you have fast boot and secure boot. However, I also have fast boot, but it's MSI's fast boot, it seems to just skip the splash screen in the beginning of boot up it seems to disable the option to go into the BIOS while booting up, it just goes straight to starting windows and locks the keyboard from working and I'm pretty sure I've seen t he option for "secure boot" somewhere in the menus, but not too sure.
