Gaming PC build

but there is still no reason to recommend a GPU if you don't know what "planned resolution" he is playing in

1080p 60hz

1080p 120hz

1080p 144hz

1440p 60hz

1440p 120hz

I mean... resolution isn't the only thing that matters.

1080p monitor can require anything between 970-980ti so....

there is no way that  a single 980 isn't enough for a 1080p 144hz monitor and also I agree that it could be between a 970-980ti for that or a R9 290x-Fury x and that is exactly why I'm telling to wait before recommending something. He could be playing in 1080p 60hz and actually need a 970 and someone told him a 980 TI and he would wasting money. So how about we wait until he tells us what res he is playing in also wait for what kind of games, because he could be playing league of legends in 1440p in 120hz for all we know and he could still only need a R9 290x for that. :)

:) I agrees.

Yea, there is a lack of information from the OP. Budget, Uses, and as you said, Resolution plan.

I am building a gaming pc and I my mother board has 4 DDR3 RAM slots.

My possessor (intel i7 4790k 4GHz 8mb cache quad core) says it only supports 2 memory channels.

I am planning on putting in 32gb of RAM and wondered how the 2 memory channels would affect that (would it mean I can only have 2 RAM sticks as I was going to have 4 8gb ram sticks).

I know than there is a video on this but I didn't make any sense of it.

SNIP

Ok.. this should suit you down to the ground.

Can I suggest a monitor if you don't have one...

Ok.. so I suggest trying the on-board network and sound before you go for add-in cards.. they are really quite good these days. You can add in later if you need better.

Also, you can get legitimate windows from reddit for about £10 and unless you use an optical drive regularly just drop it.

Case is VERY subjective, This is beautiful and good but expensive.

32GB is way overkill.. 16GB is overkill for most.. you can always add more later if your running into ram issues, which you just won't.

1700 is pushing it build.

This gives you your 32gb ram, a better SSD, a better GPU, your MOBO of choice (still too expensive), a better PSU, and you choice of pretty much any case.

Cut cost by getting a different CPU, which is PLENTY powerful enough to run games.
