parts total $704 on PCpartPicker

Inefficient parts. It depends on whether it's bought part by part or as a whole.

It this case, it's a completed build.

Right, but if this dude is listing new PCs on craiglist I highly doubt he's get wholesale prices so he's buying the parts from somewhere at retail prices and then assembling it. That means it's worth more, not less.

After my calculations using Newegg, it came out to be $625.

Prebuilt should be cheaper. You get stuff that comes with parts you but separately anyway.

what logic goes in to that?

You can build a better pc for cheaper. Just because a cable is labeled at $1000 doesn't mean it's worth that much.

Okay, you can't just sub in cheaper parts and use that to justify wanting to pay less though. You have to pay for the parts that in the list, which totals around $700.

Yeah, my educated guess was about 650-700 for the parts, plus however much he wants to charge for labour. Going rate for PC assembly + 2 year warranty is 80 euros (~100 dollars US) at the place in town.

No you don't. Just because a gt 440 is labeled at $400 doesn't mean it's worth that much.

If you're buying a PC with a brand new gt440 in it, then yes thats exactly what it means. "I can build this for cheaper" isn't applicable in pricing a prebuilt. If you want it for that price, then build it yourself, don't try to rip off the guy that spent $700 on parts by trying to get him to sell it for $500.
