I'm planning on doing a gold themed water cooled build, and I was wondering where to find things/which things I should use. I know I'm going to use the Corsair 900D (it's sitting next to me) but I haven't ordered anything else.

Specs so far:

Case: Corsair 900D (it's sitting next to me)

CPU: 4770k

GPU: GTX 780 MSI Lightning (if they would hurry up and release it)

Motherboard: Asus Z87 Deluxe

PSU: Corsair AX860i

1. I know phobya makes a gold plated rez, and bitspower makes gold compressions; anyone know where to find them?

2. Planning on putting a 480 rad in the roof of the 900D and one in the basement. Any suggestions for performance rads?

3. Recommendations on a gold plated CPU water block for LGA 1150?

4. Thoughts on 1/2" ID 3/4" OD tubing and fittings? I kinda have my heart set on it :)

5. What tubing/coolant colors would go with gold theme? (clear tubing with colored coolant preferred)

6. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=34694

^this appears to be a gold pump mod kit for MCP655. Will it decrease the performance/lifespan of the pump?

7. is the Phobya RGB led controller and lights any good? And where do I find it?

All suggestions are appreciated!

Lots of gold paint.

  1. Try eBay (new) or the regular water cooling retailers (listed in the FAQ).
  2. Any rad is good. The more expensive the better it will be but not significantly. Aim for low FPI.
  3. Swiftech have a special edition gold apogee block, as do XSPC (and EK probably have one too).
  4. Nothing wrong or special about that tubing size. Its quite a popular size actually along with 3/8 1/2.
  5. You can't use aurora coolants. I would not use a gold coolant because it will end up looking yellow and tacky. You could try Pastel Black because that would fit your theme but its had issues in the past. Your best option would be a clear coolant come to think of it.
  6. Mod kits increase performance and don't affect lifetime.
  7. Use Google Shopping to find products. Phobya make good products.

Yeah, I agree. Don't try a yellow coolant or else it will look odd.

I know that this build isn't watercooled but it may give you some ideas.

I'm a bit of a fan of the aesthetics of bitspower's gold fittings, however I might end up getting these. Depends on if anyone will decide to carry bitspower gold fittings :)

Don't they also void the pumps warranty?

Yes but I doubt they can prove it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've done a bit more research, and I have a couple more questions:

8. If I were to use clear coolant with black tubing (PrimoFlex Advanced LRT) would I still be able to see air bubbles to bleed the loop?

9. Swiftech Apogee HD Gold doesn't say on the specs sheet whether it works with LGA 1150, will it and should I use it?

10. Has anyone bought from avadirect?

I'd say it be quiet hard to see the bubbles in comparison to regular coloured tubing or clear obviously. However I would not rule out the fact that it may be possible with a bit of direct light at it. It'll definately take you more time to fully inspect but it should be fine. Black on gold would be a great look by the way.
