Hi, my sister sent me on a mission to find her a laptop ranging from 600-800 dollars USD, and I have a lot of knowledge on more expensive laptops, so I came searching your knowledge. I'd like it to have a touchscreen (possibly 2 in 1 functionality), at least 4GB of RAM, and a slim profile, and maybe an SSD? I've looked at the Surface 3 and thought it might be a good idea, but considering you have to buy the keyboard attachment, I wasn't sure. I'm hoping for reliable brands, as well, as she wants it to last a good five years, so maybe Dell, Asus, etc. Thanks for the help!

Wanted Build: i5 4690K, Z97-A, Vengeance 16GB, Samsung 256GB SSD, 980TI, Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX

Keyboard: Blackwidow Chroma Mouse: G502 Headset: Skullcandy PLYR 2 Phone: Samsung S6 Edge Tablet: iPad 2

What does she intend to use it for? Is she a basic user/power user? Does she plan on trying to do some gaming? Does she do any graphic design or video editing?

4GB of RAM is really a minimum these days, if your expecting a 5 year service life spring for more.

Assuming your US and Best Buy is a good retailer for you:

Isn't the worst thing you could buy, broadwell integrated graphics are decent for a non-gamer, ram is expandable to 16GB, not the 2 in 1 but does have a touchscreen and a pretty slim profile, although part of that slim profile is caused by the lack of a optical drive. AC Wifi adapter is a plus as well as HDMI out for using it to watch something on a larger screen. SSD you would have to upgrade yourself, but you have something left in your budget at this price, and I like to see how full someone is going to pack a drive before trying to do a SSD typically.

But in all reality, that was the first result on their website when I selected your price range, so I am sure you can find something that is more tailored to what you/she wants. Without a understanding of what she would use it for it's hard to suggest a specific product.

I might just be back after the last few years because Spez is an idiot and I'm making a point to start staying away from Reddit.

You could build her a mini itx rig.

Can't bring a desktop to school.... Well you could, but she needs a portable laptop.

She would defiantly be a low-power user, but I don't want her wasting money a Macbook, for example. She would just need for basic things like video watching, notes, and using the Microsoft Office suite. This is why I was thinking the surface, but they seem somewhat overpriced, for what you get. I'll keep looking, thanks for the input.

One of my friends has that. It's slim, and has a good amount of power. It may be overkill, but it's better to buy something that's too powerful than not powerful enough (in my opinion). Plus Dell tends to have pretty good build quality.

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.
