Connecting a microphone mini jack TRS through a mini jack to jack TRS adapter into the preamp input yields no signal. The microphone is not faulty.

Mic, mini jack, TRS > mini jack to jack, TRS > preamp

Connecting a headset stereo input TRS cable through the adapter and I'm suddenly able to get a signal by talking into the headset drivers.

I want to be able to connect the microphone to the preamp. What am I missing?

Not all TRS jacks are wired the same. What headphones/headset are you using?

I tried to connect a really cheap literally broken in half headset (separate mini jacks for mic and audio). It was more done as a test for when i receive my modmic, but the headset works completely fine when connected directly to onboard (Z97M-G43). I have no idea what the name of the headset is.

I did some more testing, and it seems to simply not work with all the different PC microphones I have in the house (all TRS), however I had some TS jack microphones laying around too, and it plays happily with those.

Do you think getting a mini jack to TS jack adapter would solve my problem?

P.S: Connecting the output of my Schiit Magni to it also seems to work. The setup is a Behringer MIC200 (preamp) > Alesis Core 1 (interface) > PC
