Since im doing a silent build, I am now looking for the quietest GPU under load. (No, not the R7 250 Ultimate). I'm going to spend about $350 for the GPU. Currently I am looking at the MSI Twin Frozr V GTX 970 or the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X Vapor-X.

:/ Tough call. either of them will be quite good.

Don't know either, I might get the 970 because of its less power consumption and technically better driver support.

You won't get silent under load from anything but a custom cooler. Maybe a 970 with a 212 evo and a noctua fan and some vram heat sinks

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)

Well, that will pass my $350 mark. I'm not looking for complete silence. Maybe something under ~30 db. And i dont like the Evo. The Pure Rock by Be Quiet is much better imho.

I suggest going for a semi passive build instead of a silent one. It can be completely silent at idle or low load then just quiet at full load. Use pwm case and CPU hs fans and a strix 970 or something similar.

Well yeah, Passive cooling. I am going to use an RM series PSU. Also, any reasons why I should get the Strix? The strix is 37 db while the Twin Frozr is 30 db.

The R9 290 vapor x is quite quiet,

But the 970's are lower power consumption.

But is it really that important? you will probably have more noise coming from other components than to notice the GPU

BTW your sig already has a pc ?

What RM psu ?

I wanted to do about the same thing, but the RM1000w is meh

It overheats if you use it passively, and it has a lot of ripple at high loads

I dont think so. I will not not have any hard drives and I am using all Be Quiet! fans, and a Be Quiet! Pure Rock CPU cooler.

Those noise levels are at full load. The strix turns off the fans when it's at low usage. The twin frozen might and I know you can change the bios to make it but I suggest the strix because it comes like that.

i was thinking the RM650, or Should I get a Be Quiet! PSU like the Straight Power 10 or Power Zone?

really? I thought the Twin Frozr has the fanless mode on idle?

that should be fine, it would switch on at load.
