Hey LTT
I want to upgrade my ram, as i am now running a rig with 8gb (2X4 GB) DDR3 Kingston HyperX Savage ram.
I have decided that i want to upgrade to 16 gb (2X8 GB) DDR3 ram.
My question is, what is the best/fastest ram i can buy?

My case is the NZXT h440 with the clear side Window (Red & Black), and i want to get red, or at least black sticks to mach the rest of my rig, preferably Red.

thanks in advance.

Best or fastest RAM would be whatever your motherboard supports as the max speeds for RAM, or whatever you need it for.

Alot of my friends who own 8x2GB Ram DDR3 always recommend the Corsair Dominator Platinum which run at 1866Mhz.

Also, I think they look pretty cool. ;-p

I'll start by sharing this...

Ram Speed doesn't matter.

So you are just going to get the Ram you think looks nice for a fair price.

Red you say?

Oh god that ram is like $75 overpriced... You can get Kingston Fury Blacks 1866mhz for $103.... You can find some 8x2 kits under $100

Also... This.

As you didn't share you specs, and I had to go look at your profile to see you had the possibility to do Quad channel... Yea, you should probably just do that, as it will be $50 cheaper.

Yeah Corsair is a great company when it comes to peripheals but when it comes to SSDS, PSUs, and not all of their ram like the corsair vengeance is pretty cheap but most of it they should just stay away. They do pretty good with cases.

To futureproof myself, at some point i was thinking about running 4 8 GB sticks.

should i run quad-channel instead?

@DarkBlade2117 I am following my topic, i was just out for a bit.

No reason to have more then 16gbs of ram. Very few programs utilize it and some people think 16gbs is to much. With 16gbs of ram you won't need to upgrade for atleast 4-5 years and by then you'd probably have a completely new system. Future-Proofing is a term used to much in my eyes, Future-Proof is to save future hassle. Very few things that should actually need to be future proofed and that's the Power Supply, Storage, and cooling because it's a hassle to re I've a big heat sink to switch to a AIO.

Check this video out... Linus is using a server grade setup, and he has 128GB of RAM in the system, but he only ever uses 19GB of the RAM. And he has got A LOT of processing going on. So I would say you are never going to get close to using 16GB of ram.
