hey linus community, I have a dilemma, I want to do a huge upgrade to my setup but if I do I'll have no spare cash left for other cool stuff I want like a good drone.

I want to upgrade my monitors and graphics cards

I currently have a gtx 980 windforce

I want to upgrade to a dual Gtx 980ti hybrid and 3 4k asus monitors

Monitor: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27799&cPath=1087

Gpu: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=32259&cPath=876

But if I do these massive upgrades I'll have no cash left for stuff like drones and a new phone and smart watch

If you had to decide what would you choose?

Thanks

Zach

Even dual 980 Ti arent gonna perform great on Triple 4k. Just get one 4k monitor as your main and stick with the 980 for now. Or maybe sell the 980 and get a 980 Ti or Fury X if that performs better.

Get an ultra wide monitor or a larger 4K monitor. 4K projector an option?

Consider adding another 980?  3 monitors for productivity yeah but for gaming, a single (ultra wide?) is a better option

This is LTT. One cannot force "style over substance" values & agenda on people that actually aren't afraid to pop the lid off their electronic devices, which happens to be the most common denominator of this community. Rather than take shots at this community in every post, why not seek out like-minded individuals elsewhere?

980 to 980 ti will only get you about 10-20 fps more. And dual 980ti will not do 3x4k gaming. Apparently the Fury X can on some games (due to HBM) so maybe wait 2 hours and 6 min for the fury x to release and see how that goes

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

I looked at a bunch of 4k benchmarks for 980Ti SLI and they seem to get between 40 - 60 in most games (in some games 80+). So its save to assume that 3x 4k will be unplayable unless you turn the settings waaay down but then whats the point of 4k...
