tv as a gaming monitor

holmes99

Hi, i am looking to build a entry level gaming pc. I am trying to keep the cost down so i am debating wether to use my tv as a monitor. Some people say input lag effects them and others say it is fine. The tv i play my xbox on is pretty old but the new tv i got for college is the one i am going to be using as a monitor and only has a input lag of 29 ms. So my question is since i have played xbox on an older tv will i not notice the lag on the newer tv when i get my pc? Will this play a role in my lag sensitivity? I am also open to any other suggestions as far as monitors go. Thanks.

Ive used a 4 year old TV as a monitor for my high-end computer while I waited for my monitor. It's perfectly fine.

its perfectly fine. I bounce between my 1ms response 144hz displays to my 55" I dunno but surely longer then 1ms samgsung tv for gaming all the time. Unless you are a professional gamer you are not going to notice anything.

It's not ideal but there should be no major issues.. Just turn off post processing (turn on game mode) if you can.

you might honestly stick to a TV for gaming if you can, every tv I tried to game on worked just fine. Just make sure to turn off all processing or set it to game/computer mode, and should be perfect.

I'm currently using two 42inch TV's as monitors. I can't tell you about response time on them but I honestly don't see a lag at all in games and I primarily play FPS. I probably always will use a TV unless they make a damn good 32inch or bigger 4k monitor. I honestly just went with a TV because I moved out of my parents 6 years ago and they wanted to get a 60 inch so I took there 42 as a PC monitor and never went back. Love how big it is.

Be sure to do this ^ or else you're gonna have a bad time.

I used TV for few years .. Not a bad choice for sure .. It'll work fine and give you acceptable quality at 1080p ..

But Monitor is definitely better especially when you go higher resolution .. 1440p or 4k ..
