Does overclocking my 980 below 70 celcius does not decrease life span and potencial damage?

Go to solution Solved by squid4fl,

Dont worry too much about it! Must computer hardware lives a long time if its not pushed/overclocked like crazy (with way too much voltage).

Just for example. Do you care if your gpu dies after 14 rather than 15 years? You'll probably have it replaced by than anyway. ;-)

I overclock all my hardware as long as voltage stays comfortable and temps in a safe range. I feel pretty good about that.

You should be able to overclock your 980 a good amount without even increasing voltage. And that way you dont put a lot of stress onto it!

newbie for overclocking

Anything will decrease the life of a electronic component, if there is power flowing through it, it's life is being decreased.

It's just a matter of how fast it's life get's reduced.

As long as you're under the danger zone, you should be fine. Remember, those are temps you should have while at load.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

I take it English is not your first language. Not sure what your trying to ask but 70c is more then fine.Anything under 80 should be good. At 80+c it will throttle the boost clock I'm pretty sure.

Even running at stock?

Does my card will not dramatically decrease its life?

If it's running, then it's being degraded. Electronic equipment doesn't last forever.

GPU's are very prone to wearing down because they are constantly being run at full load if it's a gaming PC.

You shouldn't worry about it's life, just make sure your temps are good and your voltage isn't too high

I wouldn't be worried about it. Ive oc'ed  all of my gpu's over the years  and have never had one die. Thats not to say your's wont.  But its very unlikely.

Thanks for the info. ill add both 250mhz but Not touch the core voltage thanks

most 980's will do a core clock of 1500 with ease (or at least 1450) and memory will differ a lot so that can take some experimentation some will fail at 7020 and some will go up to 8000
