Looking for laptop recommendation

Go to solution Solved by Lanx,

No, this will be a desktop replacement. My current computer is in my signature, and I figured it wouldn't be too hard for a laptop nowadays to beat my current PC. If I cannot find a good replacement I can wait another year

Whops... lol my bad.

In that case, in terms of GPU it won't be an upgrade (they're about even) ... The CPU however would be a very big upgrade...

Then again if you don't mind waiting then it's probably not a bad idea...

Hello everyone, I am back from offline after likely a year to ask this from you. What is the laptop for me?

  • I want a laptop that is light enough to keep in a backpack all day, and small enough to do so as well (Sorry beast ASUS, MSI laptops)
  • I need it strong enough to edit video on. I plan on doing 1080p 60FPS recording and editing.
  • I need it strong enough to run games such as Counter Strike, Heroes and Generals, ect on medium setting 60FPS
  • I want the laptop to be cool under light loads such as word documents and web browsing, and not inanely hot under heavy load. But under heavy load it would be seated at a proper desk.
  • Battery life for a light load must be over four hours. It is okay if I turbo town, or have the screen low brightness.
  • Upgradable is nice, but not needed. This laptop will need to last me quite a while
  • I need to be able to run two additional screens. preferable display port or HDMI.
  • Must have 3+ USB ports without needing a hub (Hubs are a pain in class)
  • Windows PC (8.1)

Budget is under $1500 CAD (Pretty reasonable)

Any help would be appreciated  :)

I love my Dell Inspiron 13" 7000 (Core i7 5500U, 8Gigs of RAM, 1080p Touch, 360 rotation)

After having it a few months now it pretty much suits my needs. I have no idea if the Intel HD Graphics will fit your gaming needs though, probably if plugged in on performance mode. Also, the laptop can get pretty warm if you sit it on your lap watching youtube videos in laptop mode, in tablet mode this is not a problem.

This would be a replacement for my current desktop, so that would likely not suit my needs

Then this would be a slighty better option i believe?

960m outperforms the 860m by about 15% from what I've read... Also you should be able to increase the ram without getting too close to the 1.5k budget...

This looks like a very good option considering it's still in your budget.

When you say 7870, you mean a 7870m in your current laptop right? If that's the case then you'll have a huge improvement with either of them (at least according to the site I'm using).

The 965m seems to bee in a pretty good spot for your budget though. All laptops I've seen with the 970m are above your budget...
