How to organize photos

This is something I've been struggling with since we all like to keep our backups and what not. In the past my folder structure went like this.

  1. Year Shot
  2. Descriptive Name of Shoot

Within the second folder I had 4 more folders in this order

  1. RAW (Files as shot off the camera)
  2. Usable (the stuff I intend to put though editing)
  3. Post Edit (the photos that have gone though 1st lightroom and then photoshop (if needed)
  4. Post Edit Resize - WM (finally resizing it to the resolution I intend to upload and watermarked.

This works, but I find it cumbersome, I omitted the "useable" folder and just started uploading everything into Lightroom and in there pick and choose what to edit. So now its more like

  1. RAW
  2. Post LR (colour edits, sharpening ect)
  3. Post PS (removing distractions in the photo, general editing that LR cant do/ I find easier to do in PS)
  4. Final (watermark/resize)

But ya I would love to hear of more ideas

I stopped trying to figure it out when I started using light room. What I did is project name, unedited, edited. I let Lightroom handle the rest of the meta data.
