why did it take camera technology basically more than 100 years to get to the "HD" era? they were invented in the very late 1800's and early 1900's but have looked like crap picture quality until the late 80's rolled out. why did it take so long? today it only takes 1 year to get a phone from 720p to 1440p or 5 years to have a car run long amounts of miles on electricity.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Moore's Law

/Also think about the amount of money that went into making pictures look better in the 1800s vs. now. Plus, look at TVs, they've been stuck at 1080p (mainstream) for over a decade -- so screen resolutions jumping quickly is a bit skewed since they started out way behind (i.e. 1080p had already been standard for years in TVs/laptops before they made it to smartphones).

true but if we applied moore's law to the camera then we still havent accomplished major things with the technology from the 60's to the 90's when it started to get better.

Cameras today are completely different technology than the original stuff back in the day. Basically we had those, used them, then waited around for a hundred years for computers to be invented, then reinvented the camera based on that.

I think cameras are getting better and better. I remember 10 years ago, if you didn't have a camera that has 3 megapixels, you weren't cool. Now cameras have an excess of over 20 megapixels. I know it's not always about the megapixels, but using that as an example.
