so here i am sititng at my desk and i decide to run folding @ home, everything is normal for a about five minutes thern all of a sudden my fans on my gpu jumpo straight to 100% so i automatically bring up gpu tweak to se what the hell is going on, turns out my gpu was at 96 degrees :/ also found out that the fans never went on till that 96 degrees where it then kicked up to 100% to cool the dam thing down. what im wondering is what the hell happened for the fans not to turn on till almost 100 degrees and will it happen again ? is it just a simple issue or a glitch ?

Probably the polling rate for fan speed increases.. they leave it low so that they slowly change and make less of an annoyance.. so when you started the program.. it would put massive load on it fast ansd as they are passive cooled at idle, it spiked, probably throttled the core a bit and then the fans span up to bring it all under control..

Keep GPU tweak running in the background with a custom fan curve and mess with the refresh times of the fans.

Well, it might be the fan curve that ASUS has set up for the card, the fan curve on my FTW+ seems quite steep as well, though to a lesser extent (fan speed rapidly increases beyond 65°C). But I don't think this is how the fans are supposed to run normally, it would be best to wait for another Strix owner to provide their experience with the card under folding conditions.

odd.. I find that that can happen with my 780's when I accidentally kill PrecisionX.. was GPU tweak running (or do you normally have it running)?

ya it runs on startup and goes in the background all the time

well turns out it just happened again, although this time i cought it because the program im trying out for temp monitoring was showing 26 degrees for my gpu in the task bar and i was folding so i knew there was no way that was possible so i went into gpu tweak and sure enough it was at a nice toasty 90 degrees with no fans so i loaded up my profile with a custom fan curve and the fans fired up and cooled it down again :/ no im not amused, so i guess speccy glitching out and displaying my mobo temp was kinda good in the end, guess ill have to watch those gpu temps for the first coupe minutes to make sure the fans kick on :/

I think it's an issue with a specific version of the software.. try update or roll back to an old version.. or even just re-install. Helped me. Not noticed it since.

ya im reinstalling it, kinda got pissed of at it since it just glitched out and screwed up all my oc profiles and made them all max oc and max voltage :/

Nah, they are all basically the same, stick to a layout your familiar with

Ya I want to but gpu tweak is getting glitchy. The fan curves are getting all messed up. When I try to change an oc profile it automatically cranks the voltage up to max and won't go down no matter what I try

They are all re-skins of the same tool... precision X has the same issues... Go to an older version you found was stable and stick to it..
