Internet Speed slows down over time!

Go to solution Solved by sof006,

Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

Look for the latest drivers for your wifi card/adapter or if that doesn't work replace the adapter with a better one. My old belkin adapter had numerous issues like this so I replaced it with a Netgear WNA1100 adapter and all is fine now.

My 2mbps internet speed slow down over time! Why is this happening? I found a temporary managable fix for this but its not convinient! Let me try to explain...

First i will get my 2mbps speed.

After a while (few hours) The speed drastically reduces!

Then  I disable my network adapter

Then I enable it

Then the speed is back to normal!

What is causing this problem? This issue is very irritating and unbearable. I need to get it fixed!

When it begins to slow down could you open your task manager and tell us the link speed between you and the router to see if it drops below normal link speed.

My link speed is always 54Mbps.

If your link speed is dropping it can cause your internet to slow down. It does it with degrading wireless adapters etc.

I will check that when it slows down again. What may be the other causes for the problem?

Interference. What happens when you sit as close to the router as physically possible?

I have had a similar problem with my ISP over her in Germany. Problem was, that the connection to the big network knots was heavily overloaded. As a consequence of this there were interferences between different users and therefore more bytes got lost etc. Resetting the connection and getting a new IP with it fixed the problem here. (I think my ISP set up a new "direct connection" to the data center every time you reconnected (I know that that's technically wrong, but idk how to describe it better xP))

If this should be the case, there's not much you can do about it, til a new connection is build.

Its not that kind of issue from what he is describing. As you can see above he disables his WiFi adapter and re enables it again and the speed comes back. It has nothing to do with the network infrastructure. Its a WiFi issue.

Exactly, which is why I said Wi-Fi issue. Issue between your computer and the router. The router is obviously working just fine.

Well then i'd suggest disabling that wifi chip and buying a better one from amazon or... your PC store. Whatever is easier. Thats of course changing the drivers doesn't work. I tend to find motherboard built in wifi isn't that great. The WiFi cards or adapters you can buy from your PC store or online are much better. My netgear wifi adapter is perfect, never had any problems with it since the day I got it (touch wood).

It can happen at any time really. Does the motherboard have any kind of external antenna? Like I said my old adapter stopped functioning correctly after about a years worth of use, there was an internal adapter in my old laptop that did the same after about 2 years. All I can really suggest is, change the drivers or buy a different wifi adapter. The adapter doesn't have to be expensive, my wifi adapter cost me £20.

I guess you could take a look in your BIOS for any options, not sure what it would be as I have never personally used your motherboard.

Could you try moving your external antenna away from any potential interference like metal objects, your wall.. anything that might absorb or obscure the signal.

Move it away from your monitor if possible, your monitor will be generating electromagnetic interference. Put it somewhere that is relatively clear of other objects.
