Hey all,

Currently I am in desperate need of a laptop, and I am looking to purchase one shortly after I get my Tax return. I'm currently planning to arrange with a friend of mine to buy one from the states, have it sent to his friends house, and then forwarded to me. We have terrible availability here in Australia, and the mark-up is atrocious (2k laptops in the states cost like, 3.5k here).

My budget is around $2,500AUD, which equates to approximately 2k in US dollars, maybe a little more depending on what extra I get for the money. I figure I'm going to have to spend a bit of money to get some that's going to last.

My needs:

-Decent battery life

-Portability, since I'll be using this thing for University

-Must have an SSD

-At least a 1080p screen

-I'd like it to have a somewhat premium feeling to it. I know that's incredibly shallow, but, this does represent a pretty big investment for me

-Build quality. I want to buy something knowing it will be something that is going to last, if it's looked after of course

As far as day to day tasks go

-I write quite a bit of code for my studies, and I'll be doing freelance web development starting from next year

-Games, mostly Starcraft 2, Dota, and a MAME emulator called Fightcade

-Heavy web browsing (30+ tabs)

-Adobe Creative Suite (I'm stunned by how much I've used this in my course)

This one. Battery life is 3 hours-ish for a gaming laptop and a gaming laptop this thin it's pretty good, you just need to find a 1080p version, I don't know where australians shop.

Location: Kaunas, Lithuania, Europe, Earth, Solar System, Local Interstellar Cloud, Local Bubble, Gould Belt, Orion Arm, Milky Way, Milky Way subgroup, Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, Laniakea, Pisces–Cetus Supercluster Complex, Observable universe, Universe.

I'm a little worried about that 4k Screen, 2 main concerns

-15.6" means that the PPI count would be crazy, how is text going to be in day to day usage

-Gaming at that resolution, would I be able to hold a stable 60fps?

Derp. Apologies, it's getting late here.

I did manage to find the one you were referring to, it's decently priced, I think around 2k, I'll use the leftovers to get a nice bag for it.

Plastic lids get finger prints all over them too.  :(

I suspect I'll need to start carrying a small spray bottle of window cleaning and a microfibre cloth to keep it clean, and clean it nightly when I get home. A lot of effort sure, but worth it since I plan to have this thing until I graduate. Unless someone else has a better suggestion, GS60 seems like a solid buy

There really aren't that many portable gaming laptops I dunno why. Aorus X7 maybe, dunno if they have 970m version of it.
