No.. they do help to cool them but they are mostly for looks.

Not inherently. My DIMMs never came with a heat spreader.

DIMMs don't even need heatsinks to operate - they're mainly for aesthetics and perhaps if you really want to overclock the crap out of your RAM (which is pointless, btw).

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.
