Hi,

So recently for a new build, I got a Nepton 240m and an i7 4790k and a Maximus VII Ranger. After installing the CPU cooler with a grain of rice size Arctic thermal paste the PC wouldnt post as it gave me an Error 55 - memory not installed error. I searched online and found that with the nepton 240m there is a certain side that you install the pump standoffs which wasnt mentioned in the manual. One side has a sticky black surface that only became evident to me after it leaving small resiude. Otherside is bare metal, the black surface has to touch the motherboard. Anyways, I re did it with black side down and it posted. However I am extremely unsatisfied with the temps for a water cooler. I ran Intel Extreme Utility and in the CPU temp goes to 78-82C,(At turbo 4.4) and keeps fluctuating in that range. Its around 30-40 at idle. I don't think these temps are good at all especially for a water cooler? Is it maybe because I didn't tighten too much on the screws(it said online that if you tighten too much it can cause error 55.)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k. Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Ranger GPU: MSI GTX 970

The i7 runs hot, and XTU is a stress test, so your temps will be on the higher side.  The being said, what is your ambient temp because 30-40C idle is high.  I definitely would first try tightening the screws a bit in order to get better mounting pressure.

I will try that soon. What do you think are normal temps for this?
