I searched this topic in the search bar above and got nothing that's why i started this. remember to state why, i'm building a new system and is indecisive on the CPU and MOBO at the moment.

It depends on your budget. Simply because some parts are good doesn't mean you should get it.

It's about making a balanced build so that you get the best performance out of your money.

Depends on if you want itx or mATX or ATX. Intel has a great range for all of them, but AMD mainly focuses on ATX...

I just did alot of research on this recently and amd mobos does not have pci gen 3 support and that will bottleneck future gpus and limit upgradability. Well the asus 990fx sabertooth gen 3 has pci gen 3 but its hard to find   :(

imo there is no real improvement from 1155 to 1150 and 1155 is artificially cheap at the moment cause the venders are trying to get rid of stock so 1155 might be an option right now unless you fancy 1150 :D (but if your overclocking 1150 is like a lottery :( )

Say if i was going to buy a maximus v gene and an intel 3570k. Would I see a major difference by upgrading to a maximus vi gene and an intel 3560k?

in my opinion

1080p AMD 8320 or 8350

lower price + possibly more future proof.

2k or higher resolutions 4670k

better chipsets + overall bandwith for multiple gpus + best single threaded performance

the differences would be cost and the differences with 1155 and 1150 such as more sata 6 or the thing with ram ( can't remember specifically :P ) and also the differences between the mobos in terms of features ( msata combo, supremefx, more sata 6, something wing chokes bla bla rog stuff :P )

imo - go for 1150 just cause the vi gene is an improvement of the v gene ( overclocking may be a problem if u get a bad chip)

3570k or 8350

4370k will give a 5 fps difference over ivy

great interrogated graphics but your probably going to use a dedicated card

just choose a haswell 4670k or a 8350 or 9340/70  was it, porbally something else, the 320-340$ AMD new cpu

haswell is mostly a improvement for

+integrated graphics

->power consumptions (now better for lap/tablet)

+->improvement for adobe etc (photo/video edit)

To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

i5 4670k - this is an overclocking version so you better buy a good cooler to go with it (hyper 212 evo will do just fine, and it's reasonably priced).

Here's a great link on the subject: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=best+gaming+cpu

If you really must, here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html

That being said, results will vary person to person, you cant just ask "What is the best cpu?" and expect to get a single answer. What might seem like a pro to one person might be a huge con to another. Without knowing your budget and usage needs, the best you're gonna get is "google it yourself" or a copy pasta answer of "8350 or a haswell".

Build 1: CPU: Intel i5 2500k @ 4.7 GHz, GPU: GTX 660 Ti, Mobo: Asrock Z68 Pro3-M, RAM: 8GB Samsung "wonder ram" @ 2133 Storage: SanDisk Extreme 240GB

Build 2: CPU: Intel i7 4770K @ 4.6 GHz GPU: GTX 780, Mobo: Asus z87-Pro RAM: Same as build 1. Storage: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB

NAS: FreeNAS running on core 2 Quad Q8400, 8GB RAM, 6 x Seagate 2TB. Dont bother with SanDisk SSD's, just don't.

I wanted to see everyone's opinions and reasoning behind them to reinforce my decision. I wasnt looking for one answer, i was looking for multiple. Plus i said whats the "best" CPU which means im throwing my budget out the window.

8320 for best price to performance ratio. But also "as low" as I would go at this point in time. Anything after that is just for use outside of gaming / get slightly more FPS.

If you get to the point where you are using 780 equivalent system (e.g. SLI 670 CF 7950) then you might want to look into the 3570K at minimum just to decrease any bottlenecks in your system (though these won't be shown much in gaming).

In that case, a Intel Core i7-3930K. Hexa core, way higher performance per core than any AMD chip in the foreseeable future. Will not bottleneck you even when running the most CPU intensive games (ie: Skyrim with a metric crap ton of mods) and will be future proof easily for the next five years.
