Hello forum,

Since about 3 months I am getting BSOD's about twice a week. Since I am planning on upgrading to a 970M, I need to update the BIOS but I am kind of afraid for it since I do not want a BSOD while updating the BIOS... :/ Happend last time when I was updating drivers and I couldn't boot anymore so yeah.... I really need to fix this before installing a new GPU.

My system is:

-OS: Win 7 Home 64 Bit (=Original OS (OEM))

-Build year: 2012

-Age of OS installation: 2013 (HDD crashed once)

-CPU model: Intel Core i7 3610Qm

-GPU model: GTX 675M

-System manufacturer: Alienware (or dell, discussion possible ;) )

Here are the files I need to upload following the BSOD guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3cuzEqGlgDXS0xObTZMOVdPREU/view?usp=sharing

Greetings

I would probably check the power brick with a voltmeter;

and make sure it isn't verheating.

are the BSOD's happening at any precice moments ?

No, mostly when doing not heavy things, I never have BSOD's when gaming or rendering so I do not think its the power brick... I also get blue screens while on battery...

Take a photo of the BSOD to see what the error is.

It is getting really hot but I guess that's normal since my laptop is almost always plugged in...

Does it happen when the laptop moves ?

EG: heavy keyboard useage or moving the pc or something like that.

No, actually, it happens on completely random moments...

I attached a file with the info bluescreenvieuwer is giving me. I guess it is a driver issue, isn't it?

Also, maybe worth mentioning: my DVD-rom is broken maybe that has something to do with it altough I think I was getting BSOD's already when it worked...

I am currentely letting norton run a complete system scan. Afterwards, i shall try updating my chipset drivers... Graphics drivers are all up to date.

You could try running Prime95 for 24 hours to check your CPU and RAM.

http://www.mersenne.org/download/

You should select the 'Blend' setting and then change it to 'Custom' and enter in 'Memory to use (in MB)' a number equal to 500MB less than your total amount of RAM. For example, I have 16GB of RAM, so I would enter 15500 and run the program overnight. If you get any error on any of the running threads, one of your sticks of RAM may be faulty and you will have to run the test again with one stick of RAM at a time to find out which RAM stick is faulty.

I already let it run for an hour or 2 but I will fire it up this evening ;)

I will let you guys know the results tomorrow ;)

Wow. Yes, good idea about changing the thermal compound. It's a good job you were checking the CPU temperature. If the CPU temperature is still high afterwards, consider leaving the laptop in a cold room of the house with the window open while the test is being run.
