Hello I'm new to this. Currently trying to decide on what pc parts to use for my $1400ish budget build.

What I have in mind:

CPU: i5-4690k - ($280)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo - (40)

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero - ($240)

Memory: G.Skill RipJaws (2x8gb) - ($120)

Storage: Samsung 850 Evo - ($120)

Video Card - Asus Geforce GTX 970 - ($410)

Case: NZXT H440 Black and red - ($130)

Power Supply: Corsair Cx 600W - ($73)

I have monitor/keyboard/mice already.

My question is:

1. Should I switch CPU to a i7-4790k with a cheaper motherboard?

2. Should I should to a EVGA PSU? I've heard that corsair isn't that reliable/consistent.

3. How is this build?

4. What other changes should I consider?

Thank you in advance :)

I'm making a parts list.

The GS 650w or G2 750w are better choices for PSU.

I would get a different Brand for GPU.

I'll be multitasking gaming and possibly streaming. Just aiming for a solid resolution at 1080p while I believe the gtx 970 should deliver.

Again thank you and everyone.

Wait WTF why is everything so expensive? Motherboard is only for aesthetics I'd get it open box better than any deal any one will show you.

Looks descent. The only thing I would change is cooler. The Be Quiet! Pure Rock is the same price and it performs much better.

What's your currency so I can give an accurate recommendation for the GPU?

CAD

This one is slightly over but a great overclocker if you wanna do that: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd

Or something a bit cheaper but still a great thing to have in a rig: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970wf3oc4gd

For Nvidia you are always safe purchasing Gigabyte or EVGA

For AMD you are always safe purchasing Gigabyte and Sapphire

For AMD and Nvidia other companies make good cards just these seem to be a bit better.

Get a cheaper mobo, get the BeQuiet! Pure Rock CPU Cooler, SeaSonic or a select few EVGA PSUs are good, G2 GS G1 Are all good EVGA ones, And if it's still not cheap enough to get GTX 980, Get a Corsair SPEC case, it's a pretty good looking case with a window and USB 3.0, all that good stuff at a cheap price.

i7-6700k  Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe

MSI Gaming 7 or Gigabyte Gaming 7.

or gaming 5. for $50 usd less, and the main feature you lose is 2 usb 3.0s

my suggestions, go with a g1 gaming 970. stay with the 4690k and a gigabyte/msi gaming board which is much cheaper.  the nzxt h440 is a nice case, but from what I've read has poor airflow.  For a similar quality case for cheaper, I'd go with a phanteks enthoo pro.  Corsair psu is fine, but you need to ask yourself if you want to spend the extra $ for modular.

If there is extra money in the budget, I would personally stick with the 4690k, and spend the extra cost of a 4790k on a 240/280mm aio watercooler.

Just keep your eyes open for good deals.  I stick with the major brands (corsair, msi, gigabyte, antec, evga) because you know its going to be quality.  It's hard to compare one as more reliable than the other.  And often you can find parts on sale with the listed brands

MOBO- MSI z97 gaming 5  CPU- I5 4690k   GPU- G1 Gaming gtx970  RAM- 16gb Corsair Vegeance  PSU- Corsair RM650  COOLING- Corsair H110iGT

STORAGE- AMD r7 120gb SSD / 500gb HDD  CASE- Phanteks Enthoo Luxe   Sound-  Logitech z506 / Corsair Void  Peripherals- G710, G502
