I don't see the alot cheaper. Gigabyte is better, but msi is not bad either. Really can't go wrong.

What CPU do you plan on using?

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

You can't go wrong with MSI boards. I have four of them....fantastic boards!

Get the Gigabyte board. The $5 extra is without a doubt worth it alone for the improved customer service (dealing with MSI is teeeeeeeeerrible) and the monochrome board (PCI-E slots etc) allowing you to paint the heatsinks what ever color you want and still have a great looking board. :)

MSI one has raid support, and the gigabyte one doesn't.  Two, both are great part makers.  Both lack SLI support, but both do have crossfire support.  The only major difference I see is the raid support and price.  I'd go MSI because not only is it cheaper, but you also get Raid support.  Actually, wait the gigabyte one has raid support, but the MSI one doesn't.  e.e I need to pay more attention.  Also, the Gigabyte ones has 2 more sata ports.  The MSI has 4, and the Gig one has 6.

SATA ports don't matter much for me , im gonna just use one 1 TB Harddisk

The Gigabyte board has more SATA3 and USB3.0 ports because it has the H97 chipset. It also supports the new Broadwell CPUs, and unlike the B85 board will never require a BIOS update for a Haswell Refresh CPU.

 

Other than that, the Gigabyte board offers classic PCI slots while the MSI board has PCIe 2.0 x1 slots. And there are some other minor differences like the number of fan headers.

 

 Also, the Gigabyte ones has 2 more sata ports.  The MSI has 4, and the Gig one has 6.

 

They have the same number of SATA ports, just 2 of them on the MSI board are slower SATA2 ports.

It means you may need to update your motherboard to use later generation CPUs (Haswell Refresh). Say the board supported only CPU1, CPU2, CPU3 but with an update it could also support CPU4.

 

 

*probably a bad example. someone else help who isn't a spazz?*

The CPU you said isn't apart of the refresh.

The H97 boards will support all Haswell chips, refresh or not.

Because you are getting a non-refresh CPU there no point in paying extra and besides because if you do get that B87 you can update the BIOS to support the refresh 

(Be sure to check the MSI site to see if you can)

I would recommend the gigabyte board because it's a newer chipset and it is confirmed to take that 4460 out of the box without any bios update unlike the MSI one which uses and older chipset. The h97 chipset also supports broad well CPUs if u are interested in that.

The 4460 is a haswell refresh CPU

I would recommend the gigabyte board because it's a newer chipset and it is confirmed to take that 4460 out of the box without any bios update unlike the MSI one which uses and older chipset. The h97 chipset also supports broad well CPUs if u are interested in that.

I thought the refresh was the 4690(non k) and the 4360?

The 4360 is not a Core i5, it's a Core i3.

 

The refresh Core i5s are the 4460, 4590, 4690, and S/T/K versions thereof.

I seriously just wrecked myself by missing a digit.
