Setup for 3 monitors

Go to solution Solved by Peter Vaughan Truslow,

Looking to upgrade my setup massively, Wondering what graphics card I should get to run 3 monitors?

was looking at the GTX 690 since it has 3 DVI ports, also looking at the GTX 980 TI.

Not trying to run games across the monitors just will be using one monitor for gaming, just want something that will have the power to live stream and still give good frames.

Also getting 144hz monitors that I'm pretty sure can only be ran at 144hz if using DVI just throwing that out there.

Thanks for the help in advance :)

honestly a 970 could handle that.

if you plan on streaming, look for the newer nvidia cards with the shadowplay, or the encoder built into it, to help with your streaming. almost any card can display across all 3

since that card only has 2 DVI how would I hook up the 3rd monitor? I head DVI splitters aren't great cause they just stretch the screen

HDMI for 3rd display?

it has other connectors. unless your monitor is 1440p, a hdmi to DVI or displayport to DVI adapter will work fine, and they are cheap.

what 3 monitors will you be using?

 BenQ HL2411Z's

in that case, using HDMI for one of the monitors would be fine, but a HDMI to DVI adapter would not work.

honestly if you are only gaming on one of them, I'd get two IPS monitors for the other two as the IPS will have a better picture.

yeah hook two of them off of DVI and the third one use an HDMI cable you can find them for like 5$ online...it will do the same.

Well I am big on matching things that's why I am getting 3 of them. Going to mount them so I don't really want two different monitors.

Thank you for the help though!

also while we are talking what do you think a good CPU is that will be able to power that and be able to stream while still getting the high frames we all enjoy

If you're in the budget for a 980 ti wait for AMD Fiji. It seems like it very well might blow the 980ti and Titan X out of the water. A lot of reports are saying Better than Titan X performance, at the same price of the 980 ti

when is that coming out? and can you suggest and AMD CPU to couple with that to make a good streaming rig?

None of the current AMD CPUs are worth buying. It doesn't hurt at all to get an Intel processor and AMD GPU. A Core i7 will be perfect for gaming and streaming

i7-4790k is a very powerful cpu...if it cost too much you might want to look at a xeon e3-1231v3 which is the same cpu but this one cant be overclocked and has no integrated graphics...but its significantly cheaper.

what do you have right now? what motherboard do you have?

and yeah, amd cpu's are old and slow and not worth your time especialy as a gamer.

I thought mixing and matching wasn't the best? if I get a Intel CPU I would kind of prefer to go with Nvidia for GPU

Makes absolutely no difference :) mixing Intel/AMD is fine and mixing AMD/Nvidia is fine. No performance difference, no issues with compatibility, nothing. It's all good. If you don't want to take it from me make another post asking if it's okay to mix and match

i second this...but honestly if you are going to game and stream at 1080p (render games mostly on only one 1080p display) a gtx 970 is all you need...very good card, very energy efficient and fast...will run games on ultra settings at 1080p all day long.

if you can afford i7-4790K, Z97 motherboard and gtx 970, honestly you aint gonna be disapointed im sure.

He said he's getting a 144hz monitor. An AMD Fury or 980ti would no doubt be overkill, but a 970 might struggle on new games with ultra settings at 144hz

you aint gonna see 144fps out of a gtx 970 in modern demanding games that's for sure...unless you play medium settings. ...good point.

and gaming at 120 or 144hz is important? what are your performance goals? what king of games you play? what do you expect? and what kind of budget you have for your core parts? (cpu, gpu, ram, motherboard)

obviously everything we discussed so far is a vast improvement over what you have right now...day and night.

I do not have a budget cause I will just save for what ever I need to get.

I play CS mostly but sometimes games like Dirty Bomb, L4D2, CoD, Battlefield 4. that's it currently.

want to be able to Stream while playing games at high frames, Medium setting is fine cause shit Medium looks better than console anyways, but I mean high settings would be preferred.

csgo is realky not a demanding game and even a gtx 960 can run that game above 150fps...any interest in new modern aaa titles? (gta5, witcher3, battlefield...etc?)
