hello,

i have a Nvidia gtx 660 which requires 450W, amd fx 4100 quad core at 3.6ghz using 95W and a 500W power supply. On many games like Tera, Wow Archeage i get a black screen after about 5-40 seconds i see my desktop and it returns to the game. these crashes happen about 10 minutes apart but i get about 10in a row.

so the main question really is could the power supply be causing these crashes or is it something else?

Thanks for any help

No it's definitely not the power supply.

-SNIP-

If you have a good quality PSu it shouldn't be a problem at all at 500W, are you overclocking your GPU at all it sounds like a graphics failure when an overclock isn't stable and revert back to stock speeds.

No it's definitely not the power supply.

It could be the psu but probably isn't..

What PSU is it... even if it says it's 500W, if it's a cheap no name (or even a shitty named unit) then it could be causing issues.

Does sound like windows aero theme telling you you don't have enough resources to keep using it though (christ I hate that..)

Check the event log..

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

psu's cause freezes or reboots not this.

I wouldn't count on it.. some behave very odly when they are at their limit / malfunctioning.. I've had both (freeze / reboot & and throttling / app crashes) caused byt faulty / shitty psu's not supplying enough or stable juice
